The Stranger at My Door
A gloomy day,
More like night to me
As strange as the rainy day,
I heard a stranger at the door say,
Open up, Open up,
This is the Cat in the Hat.
I know the book about the cat in the hat,
So, I took a look and saw him.
As true to his name,
He wore a hat and mittens.
To cover his kittens from the rainy day.
With no warning,
He stepped in and said,
Why waste time?
A rainy day does not mean no play,
And before I could have my say,
He dragged me to the corner of my house,
As he scanned to see whether my parents were about,
I immediately understood so I said,
My parents are in the neighbourhood,
But that was the wrong move,
He let out his kittens,
Stronger than they seem,
As they dragged my back to the living room.
I wondered what is up with these cats,
Who seem to enjoy dragging me about?
Oh boy!
The racket they made as they played snatch it,
With my socks!
They then played in a box and invited me in,
To something that was half my size!
We then played cricket,
As I began to relax for a minute,
When I wondered,
Where is the Cat in the Hat?
Just then I heard something from the kitchen,
The kitchen was not in a wonderful condition,
Because of the cat scouring the scullery!
The floor was buttery but,
Not to mention a mess,
And a noticeable one too.
That’s when I heard the familiar sound of the horn,
Sounded by my parents who were,
Back from their errands.
I panicked when,
The Cat in the Hat said,
Never fear,
They’ll never know we were here.
In a second every mess disappeared,
That made me wonder whether all this was a dream,
When my parents entered in a hullabaloo,
They screamed- “We are here”
