Shadow

Shadows: A Great Enigma

July 23, 2024

Shadow

The black figures that linger around us,
In the morning you just seem to grow,
Until the noon when you grow smaller,
As the day goes only do you grow bigger,
To be taller than me in the evening.

You never have your say,
Instead you just follow me about.
Do you never get tired,
Or awkward to follow me about,
As I go on to do my daily tasks.

Life is easy for you,
As you just laze around,
And gaze at the marvels of the earth.
Do you ever wonder how seasons come and go,
Or how day and night to and fro?
The sun does rise from the east and set in the west.

Unlike you who just idles about,
You only last until the sun is up,
But as darkness dwells all you do is,
Run away,
Finally leaving me to my thoughts,
Without a friend to talk to.

As I arise the next day,
I find you accompanying me to school.
My efforts to shoo you away are in vain,
As you end up sitting beside me in the examination hall,
Watching me scribble away answers to rusty questions,
From chapters you have never heard of.

You are a nuisance,
But also a good peer when I am in fear.
I wonder how you come in all shapes and sizes,
It does sound a bit magical when you turn from bird to
dog,
With just the shift of my fingers.

No matter how swiftly I run,
You always seem to catch up.
You seem to be everywhere,
Where there is daylight,
It is very spooky to not just see one but,
Thousands of you.
