My Introspection on My Writing Journey
Writing seemed like a commitment to me at first. But I always was a fan of books. Starting off with Paddington Bear, my first independently read book, I was introduced to a world with no rules and no obstacles. A world where you were boss. Your pen and paper were just the tickets that will lead you to marvellous places.
My mom used to take me to the park daily, urging me to always carry a book along with a pencil and note down what I saw. She used to give me random topics and persuaded me to write at least two lines everyday, which honed my creativity skills and today I am thankful for her support and encouragement throughout my journey.
That was when I penned my first poem when I was 5. As naïve as my age, I did not know much about a poem but nonetheless I wrote something that seemed like a song. I still have them tucked away at the back of my notebook preserved by my mother. Occasionally I would go through them, and I was quite amused at some of them. I wrote things in school but most of the times I just lost its touch and misplaced it.
Soon enough writing seemed to be history for me for a short while until I was promoted to first grade. We had few quite nerdy writing skills like descriptive writing, but I used them to my advantage and yet again I found myself in a mellow with creative writing. I was sometimes embarrassed to show my writings but experience taught me there was nothing to be ashamed of. By the age of nine, I had completed reading the first book of the Secret Seven series when I began to ponder what it was to publish books for a living.
I listed writing books as my hobbies and became ambitious to become an author when I grew up. I found that penning my thoughts seemed to improve my personality. Drafting short literature touched me and that was when COVID- 19 had struck across the globe.
I was down in the dumps until my mom brought me an attractive journal. I composed poems of topics that came into my mind and Boy! Did I enjoy doing that. I was glad to have my aunt- Mrudula by my side who was my cheerleader and my personal editor for my write-ups. She is a fellow bibliophile who is also my creativity partner. I am also grateful to Ms. Anupama Dalmia for moulding me into the “author”(I proudly call myself) that I am today.
I soon had about a dozen of poems, and I was quite content to share once the dark clouds of Covid-19 had passed. My writing journey may not be that unique or seasonal, but it is mine nonetheless and that is why it stands out to me. My experiences have thought me to write not for others but for myself, to take constructive criticisms throughout my journey of writing.
Today I enjoy penning down short stories, poetry, book reviews and miniature travelogues, most of which I have showcased in this website. Further, I am glad to have co-authored two books: ‘Blessings of Life in 2020’and ‘Soulful, Wonderful, Blissful’ during COVID 19.
